IDE

IDE stands for integrated drive electronics. IDE hard drives have the electronics for controlling the drive integrated into the hard drive case. See also ATA.

Identity

Your identity is the set of unique personal characteristics and information that describes you. Much of this information should remain very private in order to keep other people from impersonating you or committing identity theft.

Identity Theft

Identity theft occurs when an identity thief gathers information about the victim and represents himself as that person, usually in order to make a purchase or gain some other privilege. Identity thieves' favorite targets are financial information, login ids and passwords, and personally identifiable information, such as social security or driver's license numbers.

According to CBS News, someone becomes a victim of online identity theft every 79 seconds! It is critical to take the necessary precautions to prevent identity theft or at least avoid being an easy target.

Identity Theft Prevention

Identity theft prevention is the laws, hardware, software, habits, and actions that are designed to prevent or mitigate the theft of each person's identity.

Rather than being a state or single action, identity theft prevention is a process and an attitude towards one's personal or corporate information. Everyone needs to be vigilant in protecting their own identity. Thieves will continue to find new ways to gather information used in identity theft, and new methods and tools for protection must be created.

IP

IP stands for Internet protocol. IP is primarily used for assigning unique addresses to each computer so that information is delivered to the right locations. There are also many other protocols used to construct the Internet as we know it, like TCP/IP, FTP, and VOIP.

Java script is a common scripting language used on web pages for building dynamic, interactive functionality into the site.

Jump Drive or Jumpdrive

A jump drive, thumb drive, or USB key is a small, portable device that uses flash memory to store data and a USB interface to communicate with the computer. Jumpdrives have contributed to the decline of floppy disks.

LAN

LAN stands for local area network. A LAN is a group of computers in the same location that are networked together. Home, school, and office networks are usually LANs.
