 Installing Windows Vista
Solution To reinstall Windows Vista, you will need your installation DVD or CDs. Windows Vista requires more computer resources than Windows XP, 2000, 98, 95, or ME. If your system originally had one of these versions of Windows, consult the Hardware Compatibility list at Microsoft.com to see if your system can support Windows Vista.
  1. Insert the Windows Vista CD/DVD and restart your computer.

  2. On the first screen, select the language of Windows you wish to install, the Time and Currency format, and the keyboard or input method. The defaults will be appropriate for the majority of users, but change any fields to make yourself more comfortable. Once you have selected the options you want, click 'Next.'

  3. For more information about different types of installations, click 'What to know before installing Windows.' To continue, click 'Install now.'

  4. Enter your product activation key. This will either be on your computer itself or on the CD in which your Windows Vista DVD/CD came. If you would like Windows to automatically activate itself once your computer is connected to the internet, check the 'Automatically activate Windows when I'm online' box.

  5. Read the license agreement and check the 'I accept the license terms' box. Click 'Next.'

  6. Click 'Custom (advanced)' to continue.

  7. Select the disk drive on which you would like to install Windows Vista. In most cases, you will want to pick the partition with the freest space, which can be found by looking at the 'Free Space' column. After you select the partition, click 'Next.'

  8. Windows Vista will now install. This process can take up to three hours to complete.

  9. After Windows finishes installing, you will need to pick a user name and a password. Retype your password and select a password hint to help you remember your password. Click 'Next.' Note: It is important to write this password down.

  10. Pick a name for your computer and type it in the 'Type a computer name' box. Click 'Next.'

  11. Choose your Windows protection settings.

  12. Select your time zone. Adjust the time and date for accuracy. Click 'Next.'

  13. Click 'Start.'

Windows Vista is now installed on your computer.
